My Back Hurts And I Work From Home!
Hello again everyone!
Today ill be sharing with you a testimonial involving a large Lower Leg Length Inequality (LLLI). A short leg can affect the body in many ways. Some of the more common symptoms can be, low back pain, knee pain, hip pain, sciatica, scoliosis, disc herniation's, and much more. What makes this case so unique is that the patient had suffered an injury as a child that effected her through the rest of her life! Many influences in life may change a LLLI, severe trauma, broken bones, and mechanical stress just to name a few. These all are influences that may change your leg length over time. Below you can see the standard A-P pelvic X-ray, a Front to Back X-ray picture of the pelvis. Lisa was left with a 20 mm short leg on her left side. You can see how her spine tracks off the to left on the fallen side and then begins to correct back the other direction. This is very common and can even be seen in patients with only a 5-6 mm difference. Curves will become much worse in the spine as a short leg difference becomes larger. Which means the difference in 5 mm compared to 15 mm is a "C" curve or "S" curve. The larger the imbalance, the more curves we will typically see. Even those of us who work from home can experience chronic pain from imbalances in our own bodies. These stresses don't always come from heavy lifting or over working but may come from postural imbalances, not lifting properly, and poor posture.
"I was in a childhood car accident that completely broke my femur bone. After a body cast and bed rest, my broken leg had healed longer than my other leg. As an adult, this leg difference has caused me quite a bit of discomfort and pain when I would try and take long walks, exercise, or stand for long periods of time. Going to the zoo or walking around the mall would cause such discomfort. Even sitting on a padded chair would cause me pain in my low back and hips. I knew I had to do something! When I learned of Sarasota Pain Treatment Center and Casey Smith’s experience in treating leg length imbalances I immediately set up an appointment. He sent me for an X-ray and started working with me weekly to get my muscles loosened and stretched to help my body get accustomed to my new shoe lift and brought me to an almost level standing position. I found Sarasota Pain Treatment Center and Casey Smith to both be very professional and there work very effective in relieving my lower back pain and putting my body back into proper balance. I would highly recommend that anyone with knee pain or injuries to visit Sarasota Pain Treatment Center for an effective evaluation."

*Note: The top of the Ilium and bottom of the Ischium must be in the frame and the patient must be 40 inches, preferably 5 feet, away from focus lens when being taken. Reference pgs.55-64, Janet G. Travell, David G. Simons, Myofascial Pain and Dysfunction: The Trigger Point Manual, Volume 1 & 2
Determining and addressing LLLI is a large part of treating and addressing the source of many patients pain. By correcting Lisa's leg imbalance we could take the stress off the body and muscles to allow the spine to straighten and alleviate her pain. A shoulder issue such as frozen shoulder, neck pain, thoracic outlet syndrome, and migraine headaches can stem from an imbalance in the hips as well. We believe you must treat the body was one whole unit and understand all factors involved, not just treating individual areas. By treating the person and not the disease, and by treating the source not the symptom Neurosomatic Therapy (NST) provides patients with lasting pain relief.
